I get offers like these – to promote AI companies – nearly every single day. I never do them. I am not here for the money. I am here to make the world a better place. Valerio Capraro @ValerioCapraro This is a somewhat unusual post to write. Over the past weeks, my social media accounts have grown so much that something unexpected has started happening. Several AI companies have contacted me, offering money to promote their products. I’m talking about serious money: $1,000 and or even $2,500 for a single post. Last week alone I received three offers. You can imagine this is a difficult decision. Accepting offers like these regularly could meaningfully change my income. But at what cost? I worry that financial incentives could start shaping what I choose to share, compromising my independence and, in the long run, eroding the honesty of what I write. So I’ve decided to turn down all three offers. More broadly, I’ve decided not to accept paid product promotion on my social media accounts. I want that what I share here reflects my own thinking and judgment. I want to remain free to criticise AI developments, recognise progress, and change my mind when I think the evidence warrants it. You might agree with me. You might disagree. But you should be able to trust that I mean what I say. I think this is really important. Since this is an unusually personal post, I also would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support: for reading, questioning, and engaging with my work. I’ve learned really a lot from you. Thank you! 🔗 View Quoted Tweet 💬 4 🔄 4 ❤️ 37 👀 3061 📊 6 ⚡ Powered by xgo.ing
